2019 Player Evaluations

The Jr. Hilltoppers Basketball Program embodies the values and mission of Marquette High athletics formed in the Jesuit tradition by creating “men for others.” With an emphasis on player growth and development, the Jr. Hilltoppers Basketball Program teaches basketball fundamentals and instills life skills including work ethic, fair play, good sportsmanship, morals, and leadership.

Jr. Hilltoppers Basketball is a complement to, not a substitute for, your grade school basketball team which should remain your first priority. Jr. Hilltoppers Basketball is a league-based program, not a travelling team-based program.  Games will be played at local area high schools and other venues in southeastern Wisconsin.

We are excited to announce the following details about the upcoming Junior Hilltopper basketball season including a couple changes from last season.

Who:         4th – 8th Grade Boys (in 2019 – 2020)
When:       Fall/Winter of 2019-2020 Season (with optional summer league).

This a “no cut” program. Rosters will be assembled with a focus on dividing teams based on ability. Teams will play in a league and (NEW THIS YEAR) tournaments best suited for their level of competition.

We will have tryouts on Saturday, September 7th and Sunday, September 8th. We would like each boy to attend both days if possible, but it is mandatory to attend at least one day. Please have your son attend tryouts wearing some sort of shirt with his name on the back. That can be written, taped, or pinned on if you so choose. Please have your son arrive at least 15 minutes early to check in. There will be season registration forms available to fill out and take payment that night if you are ready to do so at that time. There will also be sample uniforms available to try on before or after your time slots. Here are the tryout times to be held at MUHS:

  1. 8th Grade: 9/7 (9:00-10:00 AM) and 9/8 (7:00-8:00 PM)
  2. 7th Grade: 9/7 (10:15-11:15 AM) and 9/8 (5:45-6:45 PM)
  3. 6th Grade: 9/7 (11:30-12:30 PM) and 9/8 (4:30-5:30 PM)
  4. 5th Grade: 9/7 (12:45-1:45 PM) and 9/8 (3:15-4:15 PM)
  5. 4th Grade: 9/7 (2:00-3:00 PM) and 9/8 (2:00-3:00 PM)

Team placements will be communicated by no later than 9/10. If you decide to play we will need your verbal commitment by 9/11, and full participation payment will need to be received by 9/13. To account for the addition of tournaments into the format, the participation cost will be $275 per player this season plus cost of the uniform which will be ~$125. The cost will be the same for all teams regardless of grade. Any new players will be required to purchase a uniform. Returning players will have the option to reuse their uniform from the previous season or purchase a new uniform.

Fall basketball activities including all group clinics led by the high school coaching staff and team practices will begin sometime shortly after rosters have been finalized. More details will come out about this schedule at a later time, but most if not all will take place on weekends until the basketball season starts in early November. Once the winter season begins we will have 1 weekday evening practice and 1 weekend practice during weekends without games.
